Makers
My design is for a skilled Jeweller in which lots of different stations are required for different activities. To help keep the space organised I have created 4 distinct zones within the building: shop, kitchen, workshop and meeting/designing. To keep these spaces separate whilst still having strong connections I have designed the space with staggered half floors with each zone having its own floor.
This project was to design a small workshop for a Maker in Sheffield. The site is located at Kelham Island on the edge of the Mill Run with large connections to Industrial Architecture.
The shop front is angled towards the street to increase visibility. The kitchen is in the centre of the plan on the ground floor which then leads up to the workshop area. The meeting / designing area is then on the top floor with a rooftop garden that looks down the Mill Run. The half floor and first floor of the building overhang the Mill Run giving great views and keeping the public path to the carpark free.
To keep with the Industrial style the building embraces raw materials with a Shou Sugi Ban and brick exterior and a concrete, blockwork, metal and timber interior
